# Dragon Railway

> The world's largest collection of 3D printed model trains

The Dragon Railway is an open-source **3D printable model railway ecosystem** in S-scale (1/64), This project is focused on creating a highly **detailed and accurate scale model** of a railway system, complete with locomotives, wagons/rail cars, tracks, control systems and other accessories.

## **Fully 3D Printed**

As we say **"If it can be 3D printed, it will be 3D printed";** From the body and wheels to the couplers, **every major component is 3D printed**. The only additional parts you’ll need to purchase are a few screws, Bearings, O-rings, and the necessary electronics.

# **V2 - late 2024:**

Dragon Railway V2 built on the foundation of V1 by expanding the range of models available. Most of these models are open source with the same collaborative spirit.

**Dragon Railway (V1)** was first published in **early 2023** as a fully open-source 3D printed model railway system that featured a variety of locomotives, wagons, and a unique parametric track design.

# Inception 2022:

**Dragon Railway first started as a HO scale project,**

The idea of a fully 3d printed ecosystem first had its inception is **early 2022**. We wanted to make a HO scale railway system, but after a lot of testing we came to the conclusion that it was **too unreliable** to print with FDM printers. So we then changed the scale to **1/64, everything was much better.** It was fine in its early days. We experimented with various motors, even tried some BLDC motors. By V1 it was running very smooth and reliable. Then we designed the other parts such as autocoupler, wagons, turnouts and everything that has made dragon railway today.

**Each of these components have a story of its own, but this is the super simplified history of this project.**

The designs for the HO scale is available here for your reference: [https://github.com/DragonRailway/ho-scale-v0](https://github.com/DragonRailway/ho-scale-v0)

# Support the project

If you find this project interesting, **please share it with your friends** and anyone who might like it. Ultimately, The sustainability of Dragon Railway relies on **community engagement** - more people involved means **more ideas**, **feedback**, and **resources**, which directly support the project’s growth.

The more support we receive, the stronger our incentive to continue expanding and improving the ecosystem. A thriving community ensures we can keep delivering new models, updates, and enhancements, making Dragon Railway **a lasting resource** for model train makers **around the globe.**
